Rotarians have always taken a sincere interest in helping to prepare the next generation, with programs and projects that help improve health and education, and lead the way to world peace and understanding. Through our Rotary youth programs, we have the opportunity to not only provide service that is the keystone of our organization, but also to develop relationships and provide opportunities to experience our wonderful organization and the ideals of "service above self" for the next generation.

Leadership is an essential aspect of Rotary
We offer clubs and programs to help emerging leaders develop their skills. Participants strengthen their leadership skills, serve their communities, increase their world understanding, build friendships, and more through these groups.

In 1951, the Rotary Club of Ottawa established its annual "Adventure in Citizenship" Program in which over 150 senior high school students from across Canada spend four days in Ottawa experiencing tours, lectures, discussions and social events designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Canadian citizenship.
This annual event provides a unique opportunity for a select group of young Canadians to come together and gain a better understanding of our country. Through meetings with political leaders, senior officials, and others, they learn a great deal about the workings of our democratic institutions. Through meeting one another and having discussions among themselves, they learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada and privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
A consistently positive response to this program is the value attached to the opportunity to meet their peers from across Canada. The discovery that Canadians hold much more in common than the matters that divide us.
WHO PARTICIPATES?
The Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program is for students aged 16-18 years who are leaders in their community and reflect the broad spectrum of religious and cultural communities that comprise Canadian society.
They are also Canadian citizens, or they have landed immigrant status. Many are past or future participants in a Rotary International Exchange program abroad.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The program evolves from year to year in response to the changing political agenda of the country. Normally, the program will include a presentation from the Speaker of the House of Commons and a visit in the Chamber, meetings with aboriginal and local leaders and motivational speakers. Other typical activities include a special sitting of a Citizenship Court, a visit to the Canadian War Museum and local universities, discussions with topical experts, a talent show and a French-Canadian meal. Participants are encouraged in fellowship among themselves and an appreciation of the cultural diversity in Canada.

The Homes of Hope program was founded in 1990 by Sean & Janet Lambert. A team from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Los Angeles built the first house in the poor El Florido community of San Antonio del Mar, Mexico. During that first build, the Lambert’s young daughter, Andrea, pointed out another impoverished family living in an old, abandoned bus and asked, “Daddy, are you going to build a house for the bus people too?” Sean’s heart was filled with compassion for another family in need and Homes of Hope was born. The next year the Lambert family moved to San Diego and founded YWAM San Diego/ Baja.
How it works: The Rotary Club of Canmore selects young adults 18+ years of age to travel to Tijuana Mexico along with 3-4 Rotary Club of Canmore members to experience the building of homes for the poor, built and funded by Rotary Club volunteers offering their time and labor. Each house build takes 2-3 days depending upon the location and type of building materials used. Some groups also choose to further support the families with a furniture package or shopping trip.
5000 homes have been built
100,000+ volunteers engaged
17 countries impacted (please see “HOH History 1990–2015” for detailed breakdown)
